The Morris Apprentice honors John Henry Dearle, who began as an 18-year-old showroom assistant in the late 1870s and rose to Head Designer within 20 years. He infused the Morris style with Art Nouveau elements in designs like “Helena” and “Foliage” and introduced Persian-inspired structure in “Eden.” After Morris’s death in 1896, Dearle became Art Director, guiding the firm into the 20th century.
